Hi Glen, There would be a lot of Batemans around Peterbourough that is just up the road from Rawdon twp. (Stirling)That whole area is loaded with Batemans, there is even a Bateman road. I am going to the Bateman family reunion on July 30th in Tweed Ont. There should be a couple of hundred decendents there. I have photos of a lot of the Bateman tombstones from different cemeteries in that general area. Most of the Batemans in Rawdon were from County Cork, Ireland. The ones from Madoc were from Lietrim, Wexford or Derry, Ireland. take your pick. I have even heard of Waterford County. It just maybe that Joseph was a brother to my gg Grandmother Susannah Bateman or her sisterEliz Bateman. Susannah was married to John Brown and Eliza to Will Haggerty. We think their parents were James and Susannah Bateman and came from Ireland in the late 1830s. We also think that a sister Ann Maria died 1847 at 14 years old and is buried in Belleville Ontario. There was joseph living in Madoc but I can't tell you any more about him , I will ask around at the picnic.....Ron
