I am trying to make sense of the extended Bateman clan of Caradoc township. At the point of their first appearances in Caradoc I have identified the following branches:
Charles Bateman (1796-1858)
Edward Bateman (1803-1895) and wife Mary Phillips (1805-1901)
John Bateman (b. abt 1804) and wife Louisa (b. abt 1817)
Esther Bateman (1809-186x) and husband Daniel Lockwood
William Bateman (1811-1852), wife Mary. Their son George William, moved to Iowa, came back to marry Margaret Williamson.
Robert Bateman (1813-1895) and wife Margaret Sutherland.
Charles Bateman (1814-1895) and wife Caroline (1817-1884)
John T. Bateman (1814-1896) and wife Mary (1820-1901)
Rowland Bateman (1823-1884)
Some of these appear to have passed through New Brunswick on their way from Ireland to Caradoc.I have received an indication that they passed through a place called New Bandon in NB; The family was originally from Bandon, Co. Cork, Ireland. The core group were already in Caradoc by 1842;Some were in Upper Canada as early as 1822.
Those said to be born in NB are:
Elizabeth Bateman, about 1838
Hannah, about 1838
John C., about 1825
Mary, about 1817
Swanton, about 1842
Thomas, about 1835
Rowland, about 1823.He remained there until 1880.
They were all CofE when they settled in Caradoc, so perhaps there are parish church records available in NB.
