When Richard Bachelor came to VA in 1661, he usually spelled his name Bachelor. His children added the "t". When my ggg grandfather, John Batchelor, b. c. 1792, joined the army in 1812 his name was Batchelor but the army "corrected" it to delete the "t" and so it was until my great grandfather, Lemuel Letcher Bachlor, b. 1852, homesteaded in what is now Oklahoma in 1896 at which time he deleted the "e" also making it just Bachlor.
