There is a little information on these people in the book 'Batchelder, Batcheller Genealogy' by Frederick Clifton Pierce, 1898:

"Emerson Batchelder (Emerson, Timothy, Theophilus, Benjamin, Nathaniel, Nathaniel, Stephen) b. Bath, ME., April 5, 1813; md there Oct. 25, 1838, Susan C. Russell, b. Jan. 9, 1814. He spent his life in Maine following the occupation of ship architect, and he lived in Bath, on the Kennebec, the latter part of his life. In 1849 he started for California via Isthmus of Panama and took the Isthmus fever. He was brought home and died shortly afterward. He was survived by a wife and two boys - Winfield Scott aged nine and Emerson Crosby aged five years. His wife was Susan Crosby Russell, also a New Englander. Emerson C. Batchelder died at the age of forty-seven an old bachelor and is buried in Seattle, Wash., where he had spent the last twenty years or so of his life. He d. Dec. 14, 1851, on his way to California. Res. Bath, ME." (This sentence must be a mistake; see below) "Children of Emerson and Susan
Winfield Scott, b. March 29, 1841; md. Nellie A. Rowe; Emerson Crosby, b. April 10, 1845; d. unm. Oct. 7, 1893, age 47, in Seattle, Washington."
