Our family descended from James ROSS born 1824 and Charity Jane BAZE, born 1828, both born in McNairy Co., TN. They were married 28 Aug.1841 in McNairy Co., TN. They had three children, all born in Cassville, Barry Co., MO: (1) John Alexander ROSS, born 1844, married Mary Jane RUSH; (2) Hiram ROSS, born 1846, was killed in the Civil War on 21 Sept. 1862; and (3) Sarah Jane ROSS, born 1848, married a WILLOUGHBY.
John Alexander and Mary Jane had ten children: (1) William (Dick) ROSS married Sally JOHNSON; (2) Martha ROSS married WEECE, their son was Charlie WEECE; (3) Hannah ROSS married Robert SMITH; (4) James (Jim) ROSS married Almeda PAULK; (5) George ROSS married Mary Alice LATTA; (6) Joseph MacDonald ROSS married Maletia Emmaline THORNTON; (7) Samuel ROSS; (8) Wesley ROSS; (9) Thomas ROSS married Martha ROGERS; and (10) John Henry ROSS married Beulah ELLIOT.
Charity married Abel Black on 31 May 1852 in Cassville, MO. Abel and Charity had three/four children:(1) Samuel BLACK married Betty WHITE; (2) Mary BLACK married Marion ANDERSON; (3) Elizabeth BLACK.Civil War Military Pension records indicate that Charity had another daughter in 1860 named Columbia Maude ROSS.Abel had two older children Sarah and Isabelle BLACK. When he died, Sarah and Isabelle lived with Charity.
Charity’s parents were Abednego BAZE and Mary SHULTS, married 1806 in Adair, KY. Abednego BAZE was an early pioneer of Barry Co., MO. He bought acreage and was very well known in the community. We have more information on the BAZE lineage.
We are searching for information for James ROSS’ parents. James died 13 April 1850, between Cassville and Springfield, MO. Charity died 14 Feb. 1903 at McKee Hill (west of Sallisaw), Sequoyah Co., OK. Charity was also known as Charlotte and Lottie.
We are very interested in finding the Mary SHULTS, James ROSS; and other family surnames connected to the ROSS, BAZE, and BLACK lineage. The BAZE name was formed from Abednego BOAZ(BAZE) which was a direct lineage of Thomas BOAZ, born 13 Sept. 1721 in Ireland. The Thomas BOAZ family immigrated to VA from Ireland. We have more information available on the BOAZ/BAZE lineage.
We want to invite everyone who has connections with our families.Come share memories and enjoy.Let’s have a great time together. Bring your memories, photos, documents, potluck dinner and make this a great day to remember.
