Am interested in UK (or other)origins of ancestors of my great great grandfather, Charles W. (Wyatt?) Baston of Martinez (near Augusta) GA. He was born 15 Oct 1818, married 13 Aug 1846 to Elizabeth Kelly Baston, and died 13 Dec 1886. One family tradition has it that he came from Scotland. (This would be consistent with the Huguenot diaspora which moved a number of French Protestants to the Channel Islands, Wales, Cornwall, England, and Scotland.) Another is that he was of
French descent from Norman knights or nobles who settled in England several hundred years earlier and entered this country through the port of Charlestown, SC, sometime in the 1600's. In any case, Charles W. Baston was a large landowner in Martinez,GA. He fathered nine children, one of whom was my great grandfather, Isaac Ramsey Baston (born 16 Dec 1859), and one of whom was Charles W. (born 24 May 1854)in whom some interest may have been expressed by others. Thanks in advance for any facts, clues, or rumors.
