Dear Linda,

You *nearly* got it right. Your BASTEN family were in Wimbledon, SRY in the 1881 UK census (as BASTIN), but your ancestor, Alfred Henry wasn't married to Maria /May ROBERTS (born Evrton, Liverpool, Lancashire & brought up in St. Asaph, North Wales).
He is shown as married to a Martha ---?, born Newmarket, Cambridgeshire!!
His occupation, builder like his father, shows no evidence of his claimed profession of non-Conformist schoolteacher, either.

Contact me for more, if interested.

Trevor (York,UK)
