My understanding is that the Basford name is Saxon in origin. , simply refering to Bassa's Ford ETC ,ie refering to a river crossing
there a number of towns / districts in the UK called Basford, principally clustered around Nottingham Derbyshire and Staffordshire. My understanding is that Basford decendents are named after the place rather than the other way round.
