Karen,
I am delighted and excited to hear from someone that knows more about Lavinia's side of the family, and more about Edward's parents.I do know that William Bruce and Charles Dubois moved back to MN, as both died there. You must still be single and probably pretty young since your last name is still Winfield. I am 64 and have been piecing things together for about 15 years. My mother had kept alot of family things and there are some pictures, etc. that you probably would like, as well. Some of the things I have been trying to find out is why Edson died in Burley, WA and what happened to Elbra Jane who married Lou Richards and lived in Austin, MN. So far, I have found no trace of her or her family. Who did Lavinia's children stay with when they went back to Ohio? I have been to the old farm, at Blooming Prairie about 15 years ago, when we took a trip to the Canadian Rockies and have pictures of many of the gravestones from the cemetery that, at one time, was on the Bassett farmstead, just about a quarter mile down the road from the farmhouse. George Walter's son Dick, who never married, lived out his life on the farm and the neighbor's (the Winns) bought it when Dick died, thus the farm passed out of the Bassett family. I will be waiting to hear more from you. My e-mail address is gerimayn@pentel.net.I live in Traverse City, MI and am a retired elementary teacher. We retired up here from the Detroit outer metro area in 1989.
