Update! Apologies to Nathaniel's branch. The 900 acres Nathaniel purchased from William Gray was previously owned by brother-in-law Joseph Chatwin. Nathaniel also purchased from William Gray (who removed to Georgia near Augusta) the 6,719 acres originally owned by his father, Thomas "the Elder" Bassett, III. One tract was 2,719 acre Plantation situated on the Appomattox River and a 4,000 acre tract situated on the Willis River. Nathaniel's nephew, Thomas V, was attending school in Virginia when his father, Thomas IV, brother of Nathaniel, was murdered by Inidans in 1781/82. Wonder if Thomas, the nephew, was perhaps living with Nathaniel or some of his other Virginia relatives at the time. Appreciate hearing from anyone working on this line. Thanks.
