Debbie--

I am a descendent of William of the Fortune which I have been researching for about two years now and I have never come across any definite proof of any siblings (which would have been necessary in order for your William to have been a nephew). There is a rumor that he had three brothers--mentioned in one source--but they are not in any wills, etc. So, I think it is an error. From what I understand, Bassett was a quite common name in England and (from what I hear) still is, so not to disappoint, but it is most likely that the two families are not at all related.
