William H. Bassett, son of David Bassett and his first wife, was born 28 Dec 1802 in New York. He married (1) Lavina Cogswell (2) Hannah Thomas in 1862. William is a fifth generation descendant of Thomas Bassett of Connecticut, who came to New England on the ship "Christian" in 1635. He had eight children, Andrew Jackson, Mary, Sarah, William Henry Jr., Malvina, Phedora, Elizabeth and Hester.
