Hi, my 3rd great grandfather was William Henry Bassett. My 2nd great grandmother, Mary Burnet Bassett married his son Benjamin. I have a hand copied of a letter from a chiled of William indicating that he was orphaned at the age of 2 at Berkeley Virginia. At a young age he went to "sea", returned in his 20's. He then moved to Louisiana. I also recently found a record at the Virginia Library by S. Bassett French. His record indicates his father was named Benjamin and a close friend of President Tyler.
