am trying to determine if my maternal Great Grandfather, Jeffrey Bassett is in your database. His daughter, Elisabeth Bassett Darling, was my grandmother. I have a copy of our family tree, and it is hard to read, so some of the following may be incorrect:
My great grandfather Jeffrey, was the son of Mary and Ben Bassett, who was the son of George W. Bassett and Betty Lewis. Mary and Ben had other children, Eleanor, Lewis (which is a family name), Lucy, Hope and Ben. If these Bassetts are part of your data base, please send me any information you have. If you are a descendant of this Jeff Bassett, welcome, cousin.
As far as I know, these were Virginia Bassetts, and at one time, owned Bassett Hall, now an attraction in old Williamsburg, Virginia. The Rockefellers tore down the original hall, when they purchased it. This is a story my grandmother told me, and I am interested to know if it this true.
The way the Bassetts are related to the rest of my family tree is as follows:
George Bassett was the son of John Bassett and Betty Browne.
Betty was the daughter of Judith and William Burnet Browne.
Mary Walker was Judith's mother and was the wife of Charles Ludlowe. He was son of Betty London. He was the grandson of John Carter, who was born in England and came to America in 1649. He married Sarah Ludlowe, his 3rd wife, gave birth to Robert of Corotoman, born 1663, was known as King Carter, whose daughter was Betty London.
