Wow! I was only looking for a "Yes" or "No," but thank you for the added information. You can compare with what I have at my web site:

http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/FGS/B/BassettNymphas-ThankfulAnnBruce.shtml

Just a couple of corrections. In the 1820 census, they are in Jackson Twp., Fayette Co., OH, not Highland County. In the 1830 census, they are in Shelby Twp., Shelby Co., IN, not Marion Township. I found, as you did, that they are in Marion Twp., Shelby Co., IN, in 1840 and 1850, and that in 1860, Nymphas is a widower living with his married daughter, Olive (BASSETT) ELLIS. I was never able to find Nymphas in 1870, but no one else seems to have either, and I did a page-by-page search of Marion Township.

In the 1850 census, their married daughter, Hannah (BASSETT) KELLY (æ 27, b. OH), is living in Marion Twp., Shelby Co., IN (p. 385A), with her husband, Jonathan KELLY (æ 21, b. OH), so we have an approximate birthdate for her.

I don't know whether to accept that Thankful BRUCE is the Anna BRUCE who was the daughter of Benjamin BRUCE & Philadelphia WHEELER. Certainly, the timing and geography are compatible. Also, Anna BRUCE had a brother, Jonah, and Thankful named a son, Jonah Bruce BASSETT. But I've seen no solid evidence connecting Thankful to Benjamin & Philadelphia, nor even anything other than secondary sources giving Thankful middle name, "Ann." Do you have any primary documentation giving Thankful middle name, "Ann"?

My last puzzle is Nymphas's 1810 census record in Jay, Essex Co., NY. It shows him with three daughters and no sons. I don't think there is much doubt this Nymphas is our subject. Over and above the rarity of his name, he is listed next to Rufus BASSET (æ 45+) who is surely his father. Either we have to dismiss the tally of the children as gross enumerator error, or accept that the enumerator made a minor error in omitting Bernard (or Bernard was born in 1810, not 1809), and that possibly Nymphas had a prior wife with whom he had three daughters. Have you anything to resolve this conundrum?

I should add here that my interest is in BRUCE, specifically in proving the identities and spouses of the children of Benjamin BRUCE & Philadelphia WHEELER, so I'm largely concerned with proving whether or not Thankful is their daughter.

Thank you for your generous response,
Diana
