Sharlyn- Hi cousin, I descend from Elsie (Scriven) and Caleb Basset's son James whose daughter Olive married Joseph W Kellogg. Would love to have information on your side of the family. Olive shows in the Kellogg genealogy. Her daughter Matilda "Emmeline" Kellogg married my 3xggrandfather Charles Hills The best I can find about the ancestry of Caleb Bassett is that he is either a son of William Basset or as Eben Pierce Basset shows, a son of Samuel and Mary (Closson) Basset. Samuel and William are father and son. Don't have my notes out to tell you which was the father and which the son. Caleb is in the line of William Bassett from the "Fortune" of 1623 according to dna testing. The Clausson genealogy says James was son of William and either Mary or Lydia (Closson) Bassett. It shows a marriage date of 17 April 1752 at Richmond, RI with both spouses of Richmond citing to RI vital records. Eben Pierce Bassett says in letter of 13 June 1942 that James was son of Caleb who was son of Samuel and Alice (Weaver) Bassett of Hopkington, RI and that Caleb married either Lydia or Mary Clauson. His Bassett papers are at NEGHS. You probably know that Caleb was believed born in Rhode Island and was believed to have been in Stephentown NY in 1790 per census. Sons George and James Bassett show as landowners in Vermont in the early 1800's James was involved in the lumber business. He owned a sawmill at Chamberlain Mills in Washington County. Most of his kids went on to Capron and Belvere, Bonus Co., Il around 1850. Notify Administrator about this message?
