William Bassett (1624-1670) of Sandwich, MA

I am curious about discrepancies in different sources regarding the wife of Wm Bassett (1624-1670). I had recorded that she was Mary RAYNESFORD (d/o Dea. Edward Raynesford of Boston). However, in the Report of Proceedings, 1897-1902, 2nd, p. 13, of the Bassett Family Association of America, it says that he married: Mary BURT (d/o Hugh Burt 1591- , of Lynn, MA). I have a feeling that this confusion came about because there were two *different* (unrelated) men of the same name, William Bassett, living simultaneously in Plymouth Colony. In one place I saw reference to a Mary Bassett who was among the accused in the Salem Witch Trials; she was the wife or widow of a Quaker, William Bassett of Lynn. However, my ancestor Wm Bassett 1624-1670 was the son of William Bassett of Bridgewater; he is not known to have been a Quaker or to have lived in Lynn, although the original founders of Sandwich came from Lynn, and perhaps that was the reason for mixing up the two Williams in the first place! Would someone please tell me if this is the correct explanation, or, do you have any other "light" to shed upon this matter?
