I'm working on this one myself. The most consistant information I've found is that John is the son of Robert. He had two sons, William and Robert. I decend from Robert's line, and it is interesting to note a third robert as the son of the above Robert, tending to lend legitimacy to Robert as John's father. I have not heard anything about Roger.
