Bassett, Russell parentage

My ggg grandfather was Russell Bassett who claimed to be born in Virginia in 1805 but moved to Kentucky. He resided in Breckinridge Co., Ky in 1830. In 1829 in was married to an Eliza Prator/Prather in Crawford Co., IN. To my knowledge he died in Breckinridge Co. in about 1859. I have been looking for his parentage for some time. Does anyone have any information relating to this Bassett? Might he have been born in West Virginia or Maryland?
