This is from National Archives microfilm number M859: Miscellaneous Numbered Records (The Manuscript File) from the War Department Collection of Rev. War Records, 1775-1790, p. 5939 copied from microfilm held at the National Archives in Laguna Niguel, CA. Sorry some of the words are hard to decipher, but hopefully someone will recogonize this Sam'l Bassett as their own. This isn't Samuel Bassett who married Tabitha Waite in Rhode Island Linda Gardner Front page says: Sam Bassett Pay Letter Second page: On public Service, Maj. J. V. M. Hooker, Continental Store Keepers In Windsor Third page: Sept 3: We have a large (word unreadable) Fleet in our Bay--& we hear that the whole of Gen'l (Picoh?) Army which were at Newhope have landed at Bristol - & are forcing their way by Fire & Swords to Providence, which hourly expects to hear is destroyed Gen'l Sullivan & Army is 25 miles distant from them Fourth page: dated Boston 2 Sept 1778 The bearer having Sundry medicine, rugs and bed sacks under his care for the general hospital at Danbury will probably not be able to carry all the bed sacks and rugs on account of the stowage in his wagon. A person who goes with him to Windsor with wines taking part of them so far, should he be obliged to leave, you will be so good as to receive and store what he can't carry certifying the same on his reciept that he may satisfy Capt. Berrien (?) respecting them. You will have from Worcester 4 pipes (?), 38 jersey (?) and 9 Bottles of Port Wine as soon as it can be sent on-which D. Fortez bought of D Shippen in our (looks like Nandy(?))-what your neighbor who accompanies this Danbury Team brings being Port and etc - these as they arrive you will store, advising in & D. Fortez.
