Thanks Walt, I have been looking at those families, but cannot determine exactly which one of the lines and which descendants went to Georgia. Being that there were Bassetts in SC as well and considering the proximity of SC to the earliest settled parts of GA and the way in which people moved back and forth with little regard for genealogists' needs for records with definite boundaries, it may have been one of the SC Bassetts. In the Index to The Headright and Bounty Grants of Georgia 1756-1909 by The Rev. Silas Emmett Lucas, Jr, I found a Thomas Bassett with land granted in 1762 and 1768 in St Paul Parish which was the District of Augusta. Being that my William Bassett I assume from the birth dates of his children to be born about 1775 or before and that records indicate that he was born in GA, it is possible that this is his father. But where did Thomas come from and are there any researchers who know of a will filed in GA, Miss, or LA by this Thomas? Thanks again. Doug Wilson. I may be e-mailed at odougmd@aol.com
