From my files...don't have reference available........... He (Nathan) was sent by his father to Harvard College and was graduated in the Class of 1719. He thus entered the ministry a vocation that he followed with distinction and marked success. In 1724 he was called by the "circular" church of Charleston, South Carolina. He accepted the pastorate which he held for 14 years until his untimely death from Smallpox. He formed a freindship during college with Rev. Joshua Smith of Charleston S.C.. He was received as an honored guest of the Smiths on coming to Charleston. The Smiths were a celebrated family of the wealthy Landgrave Smiths of South Carolina. As a result he married Joshua's sister, Mary. A large mural tablet with a latin inscription testifying to his virtues and work was placed in the walls of the church where he preached. His brother-in-law, who delivered the funeral sermon, which was published, succeeded him as pastor.
