The reason for her divorce interested me. According to H. Roger King in "Cape Cod and the Plymouth Colony in the 17th Century",1994,- a very interesting book with a couple of William Bassett references - Elizabeth's husband Thomas Burgess was convicted of adultery with Lydia Gaunt.Thomas was whipped and Elizabeth sued for divorce. She was granted a divorce and got 1/3 of his estate. He went off to Rhode Island with Lydia.
