What makes it confusing is that in 3 census's 1850,1860 1880 he is listed as Stephen Brissett and in 1870 as Stephen Bassett (although the writing looks like Bazett) in the 1850 in Plattsburg it is

Elizabeth 29

My mother in law had said the name was Brassett and the death certifs for Emma Emily Terry nee Bassett husband Moses has her maiden name as Bassett and her sons Death certificate has it as Bissett. Hers has no fathers name, it was erased when the wrong thing was put in it. but all three agree on the mother as Elizabeth Allen.
