       Daniel Bassett, son of William Bassett, was born around 1787, probably in Coventry, Rhode Island. He died around 1870 in Steuben County, New York. He married (1) Abigail Livingston, daughter of James and Susannah Livingston, around 1808 probably in Otsego County, New York. She was born 22 Apr 1795 in New York. She died 12 Oct 1845, aged 50 years, near Mud Creek, Steuben County, New York. She is buried in Wolcott Cemetery. He married (2) Maria Baker between 1845 and 1850. She was born aroun 1800. She died in 1850. He married (3) Mrs. Sarah Parle or Beard. They lived in Campbell, New York in 1850.
       Daniel resided on the Unadilla River in Edmeston, New York. He moved around 1828 to Cincinnatus, Cortland County, New York. He moved to Bath, Steuben County, New York, before 1840.

361.522. Samuel Bassett, son of William Bassett

       Samuel Bassett, son of William Bassett, was born 7 Apr 1795 in Rhode Island. He died 16 Apr 1865 in Bath Township, Allen County, Ohio, aged 70 years, 9 days. He married Elsie Lewis in Solon, Courtland County, New York. Elsie was born 23 Oct 1795 in New York. She died 9 Feb 1876 in Ohio. Samuel is buried in the old Sproat Cemetery located north of Sugar Creek Road in Bath Township, Allen County, Ohio. Elsie was buried in the old Beaverdam Cemetery. According to family tradition, she was not buried with Samuel because there had been heavy rains before she died and Sugar Creek was flooded.
       They were living in Lordstown Township, Trumbull County, Ohio in 1830. Samuel and wife were listed as original members of The Disciple Church, Lordstown Center, Trumbull County, Ohio in 1830.
       There appears on 4 May 1827 a land transaction between Samuel Bassett and his wife Elsa to Ezra Richard? in Solon, Cortland County, New York. Before Samuel and Elsie moved to Bath Township, Allen County, Ohio, they bought a plot of land in section 13 there in 1834 which was an original grant from the State of Ohio. This land is southeast of the junction of what is now Bluelick and Thayer Roads. In May of 1841, they mortgaged 40 acres of the farm to Thomas Kenedy for $60. They defaulted on their mortgage in October 1841 and lost the property. They land was later repurchased in 1849. After the death of Samuel, Lewis bouth out his sisters' interests in the property. He also paid $107 for the 40 acres immediately north of the previously mentioned property in an origanl land grant from the State of Ohio in 1848.

       Bath Township

       Walter Edgecomb, farmer, P.O. Beaver Dam, was born in Trumbull County, Ohio, August 6, 1819, son of Uriah and Betsey (Doud) Edgecomb, natives of Connecticut, who settled in Bath Township, this county, in 1832, locating on the farm now occupied by John Blaine, which they cleared and improved. They had a family of thirteen children: Uriah (deceased), Marilla (wife of Josiah DeLong), Ezra (deceased), Lansil (deceased), Clarinda (deceased), Robert, Walter, Lydia (deceased), Amy (deceased), Ann (wife of Elisha C. Pangle), Marquis, Sarah (wife of Lewis Bassitt) and an infant son (deceased). Uriah Edgecomb afterward purchased the place now known as the Hiram Protsman farm, where he resided up to 1857, when he removed to Richland Township, this county, and died on the farm now owned by his son, Marquis, in 1861, at the age of seventy-four years. Our subject was in his thirteenth year when his parents settled in Bath Township. He received a limited education in the district schools of his time, and when eighteen years of age started in life for himself, working on a farm by the day and month until he was twenty-one. He was married November 18, 1840, to Laura, daughter of Samuel and Elsie (Lewis) Bassitt, who settled in Bath Township in 1836, and by this union there were eleven children: Ann E. (wife of Reuben White), James (deceased), and infant daughter (deceased), Lewis A. (killed at the Battle of Atlanta, Ga., July 21, 1864), Loretta (wife of Hiram Barber), Sarah E. (wife of S. Philips), Samuel S. (deceased), and Lansil. After his marriage, our subject engaged in farming on a rented farm. He has owned two farms besides the one he now occupies, clearing and improving a part of both. In 1856 he located on his present farm, all of which he has cleared and improved, and where he has resided ever since. Mr. and Mrs. Edgecomb are members of the Disciples Church. He filled the office of trustee for many years, and held several other minor offices in the township. Our subject is one of the leading farmers of Bath. In politics he is a Republican.

361.523. William Bassett, son of William Bassett

       William Bassett, son of William Bassett, was born 30 Aug 1796 in Rhode Island. He died 7 Mar 1867 in Ovid, Michigan. He moved to Steuben County, New York, and then moved on to Ohio, living in Putnam County, Ohio in 1860. He married Susannah Livingston, daughter of James and Catherine (Coens) Livingston, in 1816, probably near Edmeston, New York. (Another source lists her as daughter of James and Susannah (Jackson) Livingston). She was born 21 Jan 1799. She died around 1869 in Ovid, Michigan.
       According to a letter written by Frank G. Lewis (FGB) dated 26 Apr 1919, William Bassett spent the last years of his life at the home of his Philo C. Bassett, at Ovid, Michigan, where the son had gone before 1860; and there William died 7 Mar 1867.
