According to deeds Jacob Sr. had moved to what is now Nash County by about 1748. Jacob Jr was born between 1756 and 1764 in Granville County. At that time Grandville County contained the areas that later became Nash and Bute Counties. Bute later was divided into Warren and Franklin Counties. By 1771 Jacob had bought land in Bute County, in the area that became Franklin County (Sandy Creek).

In 1810 there is a will filed for a Jacob Bass in Bertie County. Bertie is just south of Gates county. If you look at the 1790 census you will find that nearly all the family names that appear on the Militia role appear in Gates County , almost none of them are in the Franklin and Nash county area. As it is close to 100 miles between Franklin County and Gates County I can only reach the logical conclusion that the Jacob Bass who has a militia record in Gates County is not either of the Jacobs in Franklin County, both of which took the oath.

But as DAR will accept taking a oath maybe I need to look into it. Thanks for the heads up.
