I'm looking for information about Mary Baskerville, born 30 July 1755 St. Thomas, Portsmouth, Hampshire; buried 27 July 1795 Shalfleet, Isle of Wight. She married Capt. John Miller 30 April 1777. Mary was the daughter of William Baskerville (1724-1755, Portsmouth) and Jane Lloyd (buried 05 Oct 1763, Portsmouth). It is my understanding that William was the tide surveyor for the customs office in Portsmouth. It appears that Mary was raised with her cousins, the children of Peter Baskerville (I have no information about him). William's father was another William (1697, Portsmouth - 1778/79, Northwood, Isle of Wight, Hampshire); his mother was Elizabeth Haswell, buried 24 Feb 1742. William (1697) and Elizabeth were married 18 January 1717/18, Portsmouth. William owned the ship "Antelope."
This is the extent of the information I've been able to find on this branch of the Baskervilles. After this William, there are two more Williams, then Hannibal Baskerville (whom I've found -- my 9th great grandfather). The William who was the son of Hannibal was, according to some family records, a doctor who died of the plague in London in 1665. His wife was Mary Stevenson. I can't find any trace of this Mary or William.
I wonder how/why this branch moved from Hereford to Wiltshire to Hampshire? I am happy to share any information I have and would love to find out more concerning the Baskervilles.
