I've done extensive research on Giles Basha(w)'s lineage....In Maryland Giles' surname was spelled Basha....in Virginia it was Bashaw.

If you are going by Gladys Humphries' research, you will need to start over. Her work does not even come close, not even in the USA.

Giles Bashaw was good friends with Phillip Taylor...and was even administer of Taylor's estate. So we think they may have been related, and it is very probable that they came over together from the same place on William Claiborne's ship the 'Africa' which left Dale, England on 23 May 1631, and they were members of Claiborne's Band.

Anyway, in a deposition Phillip Taylor made he said he was from Herefordshire, England. So,I had a lady run the Church records in that Shire for Bashaw or a similar spelling. There were several Phillip Taylors. She found who may have been Giles Bashaw's parents. At Whitbourne, Herefordshire, England on 23 May 1611 Guilelmus BASHE married Sarum Perkes. I was told that Guilelmus is Latin for William. His wife may have been Sarah Perkins? Giles Bashaw named his oldest son William, and his oldest daughter Sarah. I'll let you decide if this couple is Giles' parents or not.

Which Bashaw is your line? It is always interesting to find another Bashaw researcher.

Regards, MaryE
