Michael, as a long time BASHAW researcher, I have accepted the challenge of trying to figure your line out. I like a good mystery!....:-) So far, I have not gotten anywhere...probably you have much more than I do. I suspect that Bashow is actually Bashaw, and that probably he came from the Sangamon Co., Illinois Bashaws that moved there late 1820-early 1830's from Kentucky. Before Kentucky they were from Virginia. Most of the Canada Bashaws stayed in and around Carrol Co., Illinoin, and the NW part of Illinois. The closest to Vermillino/Champaigh Counties the Sangamon Bashaws moved to was DeWitt and Logan counties. I checked out the Harper family, also Arvilla Schwartz...she was an orphan 1880 Champaign County...called Anna...living with an aunt Goodman and her Grandfather Finder. I was looking to see if maybe they has a neighbor named Bashaw. Do you think his mother was unwed, and he took the Bashaw name from her? Since that adoption was over one hundred years old, do you think maybe a Judge would have a look at the adoption papers and tell you his parents' names? Or write to Court Clerk, Urbana, Illinois, 61801. I was going to suggest Bashaw yDNA test for a male direct lineage descendant of John William Harper, and have it compared to the one Bashaw who is of that line I think is yours. It will only work for a male to male parents. Anyway if he took the Bashaw name from his unwed mother it would not work. I'm going to continue to search for a solution.
