Carol, you have an excellent memory! The old sch bldg located at the corner of Libbie & Patterson(you hit the nail on the head!) was originally the Westhampton School, grades 1-12. It was still grades 1-12 when QUARLES BASHAW graduated there in 1924. In 1943 the high sch students were transferred to Thomas Jefferson High. As you thought, the bldg was housing elem/junior high students in the 1950s! (Just FYI, the bldg was taken over in 1990/91 by the "Richmond Community High Sch.", an alternative high school.)
I was able to find this info by googling "Westhampton Elem." instead of "high"...thanks so much for your help! Jane (:
