My Great Grandmother's maiden name was Melissa Flandreau. She was born in New York City in Dec. 1859. In June 1875 she married Charles Bashaw who was born in Newton, MA, in 1853. His father's name was Anthony Bashaw and was French Canadian. Charles died in Passaic, NJ, in 1882. He left 3 young children. The children used the name Bachant instead of Bashaw. Meliassa Flandreau Bashaw/Bachant married my Great Grandfather, Joseph Charette, and my Grandmother, Clara Emma Charette, was born in 1884. She would tell us about how the Bashaw Grandparents would come from MA to NJ to see their Grandchilden during the 1880s and 1890s, when she was a small child.
