Rex, have you determined who Mary Bashaw's father was? You don't have many Bashaws there to choose from. Old Peter Bashaw,III (ca1760-1835) only had the one daughter, Jane, who md 1814 in Bath Co., KY to William Crouch. Old Peter Bashaw, himself, md. second in Fleming Co., KY 1813 to the widow Eleanor Jones. I have been told that she was a Pervis from PA. Eleanor was probably the mother of the three children who in 1807 in Fleming County who were put out in apprenticeships: Elizabeth Jones for 5 years, Eleanor Jones for 8 years, and William Jones was given to William Goddard for 12 years to be taught the art and trade of chairmaking and painting. I have been told that in later life William Jones went by the name of Bashaw. However, there was a William Bashaw in Bath County in 1819 who was a postmaster...the only record we find of this William Bashaw in Bath County. He was probably the William Bashaw, (cousin to Peter Bashaw,III) whose family moved to Sangamon Co., Illinois around 1830.....this family of Bashaws are accounted for...there were no daughters.
Peter Bashaw,III had three sons: Cuthbert Banks Bashaw who went back to Virginia after the War of 1812; Peter Bashaw,IV who md.1819 Fanny Pendleton in Bath County (who had a dua, Mary, and she lived in Sangamon Co., Illinois 1880 under her married name, and her mother lived with her), then there was James Bryan Bashaw who may have had a daughter named Mary, but I have no proof...but it don't appear that he could have a dau old enough to marry in 1835. His first marriage was to Nancy Crouch in Bath County 1824. She must have died without issue. James Bryan Bashaw then married second 1827 to Rachel Pergrem, who was the mother of all his children. The Mary Bashaw you mentioned would almost have to have been a child (or step child) of old Peter Bashaw,III?
Happy Hunting,
MaryE
