From the Wayne (Michigan) Dispatch, Dec 23, 1949: "William Barton Passes Away"
William C. Barton, 11070 Shook Road, passed away December 16, 1949, at the age of 81. A former employee of the Wayne County Road Commission, Mr. Barton was also one of the first rural mail carriers in this area. He began delivering mail by horse and buggy and he became a mail man when automobiles came into use. Mr. Barton was a member of the OES.
He is survived by his wife Georgia, his son, R. Clarke Barton, of Detroit; two grandchildren; and his sister, Mrs. Martha Vealey of New York.
Services were held Monday, December 19, 1949, at the Romulus (MI) Methodist Church, with Reverand Robert Hudgens officiating. The rites were held under the auspices of Wayne Lodge Number 112, F and A.M.
Internment was in the Romulus Cemetery.
