The information I have is that Roger (the original) arrived on Long Island in the 1620s.There is a reference to a Roger Barton being born in 1628, in New York, but I suspect that this is not the original chap who leased land from Everardus Bogardus on Long Island. There were a succession of Rogers in that line, eventually turning up in the Rye, NY/Greenwich, CT vicinity, so at times it gets a little dicey to sort out whether the records refer to father/son/grandson, etc.
I haven't been able to get beyond the arrival of Roger on Long Island.Certainly haven't had much opportunity to conclude, rightly or wrongly, that he had any connection to Barbados.I'm curious to know what clues you've found from the documentation on old Roger re: his origins, as I have no access to books or documents on him at this point.
His descendants, at least in my line, became Quakers. This obviously would have occurred after 1640, so it's anybody's guess what religious beliefs Roger had.
Thanks for the input!
