Hello again! My research progresses as to learning about the church and other cultural activities in the little town of Semlak -- all from the Heimatbrief from the HOG.In fact, in the latest one -- you'll find it at semlak.de -- there's quite a bit about funeral traditions and there's a picture of a Bartolf family as well as a stone.click on the heimatbrief and then go all the way to the end -- that's where the current newsletter is in its entirety. If you don't read German, you can always have the site translated at http://babelfish.altavista.com/trhttp://babelfish.altavista.com/tr
I've looked and looked for records for Julia Brodkorb/Brodkarb/Brodkorpt on the social security lists but can't find any mention of her or her husband.I also wish I could remember her sister's married name. She lived in New Jersey (Elizabeth) and had a daughter who was also a Betty, I believe.Hopefully the HOG will have the Familienbuch for the Lutheran Church done soon and that will solve lots of questions.I also have had an offer from a fellow on the Banat-L list to look for relatives in the Mezobereny records as that is where the Lutherans supposedly came from to Semlak. He's going to look up some things for himself and, if he has time, he'll give it a try for me.
Keep in touch! How are you doing?
