Joan;

Thanks for the note.

Yes, these names do fit in with some of the information I received several months ago from a lady named Joy Morzos. She has put this information somewhere on this GenForum board, and I suspect you probably have found it already, but the following is some information she sent me:

"James Bartley, b. July 29, 1840, d. Aug. 31, 1916. He married Eliza Jane Aleshire on June 16, 1861 in Miegs Co., OH. He is buried in Cabell Co., W.V. According to census records I (Joy) have found he was born in IL. He and Eliza had 10 children that I have been able to verify: James M. Marion, Samaria, John Delbert, Oscar, Viola, Homer L., Elmer E., Clyde Sumner, and Lelia."

She sent me some more but mostly just her desire to tie into my line somehow. I'm sure we do tie in, but I can't figure just how yet. Your find of Joseph and Elizabeth Bartley may be the tie in we need.

I think my John Bartley was probably an uncle to the James you mentioned above (b. 1866), or perhaps the brother of the Joseph you just found. My John was born in 1815 in Virginia (or probably what is now called West Virginia), or Pennslyvania (depending on which census record you prefer to believe). I also found in the 1860 census of Ruttland Twp., Ohio, an E. Bartley (age 49, b. in PA) with children Joseph (age 27), Sarah (age 25), and James (age 20) all of whom were born in Pennsylvania. I don't know if any of these are your Bartleys or not. Just thought I'd share them with you and anyone else reading this thing.

I would love to find out more about your Joseph Bartley, however. Do you know where he was born and when? Do you have the names of any of his siblings?

I'd love to explore this in greater detail. Can you tell me where you found the information on him? I live near a family history library and might be able to find more on him if I know where to start looking.

Thanks again for the note. Let me know if I can help you with this and maybe we can figure this out together.

Paul
