Francis Bartley born near Philadelphia, his father (Manuel) died when he was 8 years old, mother moved to Tuscarora Valley. He learned carpentry, served as Justice of the peace and associate judge (Juniata County) married 1st Miss Shaefer, 1 child died young. Married 2nd Rosanna, daughter of Alexander and Rosanna (McQueen) Work. Children Manuel, Letitia, R.M., Samuel, Jesse, Arabella, John. Rosanna died 1851. 3rd wife Margaret Seibert, children Jacob, William, George.
