Capt. George Bartley and Maria Branigan
I would dearly love to hear from descendants of Capt. George Bartley and Maria Branigan, especially if they know Maria's family history. I believe that Maria may have been the granddaughter of a Peter Eli Branigan, a stonemason who came to the U.S. from Ireland about 1830 with two sons and settled in Massena, NY. There Peter Eli had a third son, Uriah Darius, raised as Uriah Darius Richards. Peter Eli left Uriah Darius in New York and traveled to Manitowoc, WI with the two sons. There are records of a Peter Branigan in Manitowoc who I believe was a son to Peter Eli. We can find no trace of the other brother and believe that Maria, born in Racine, lived and married Capt. Bartley in Manitowoc, WI and died at her sister's home, 4521 Wallace in Chicago, is a daughter to him. Researching Racine has yielded nothing and 4521 Wallace has been inconclusive. I believe Maria is a vital key in the Branigan family history. Please, if you know ANYTHING about Maria's family history, e-mail me! Thanks!
