Hi , I have recently returned from holiday in the UK and while there did a quick trip to Wells. I went to the St Cuthbert's Parish Church and came across a very helpful church curator who showed me a old Church records book of the graveyard as it was in 1850. Sadly all the headstones were removed in 1850 and its all lawn now except for the odd memorial stone in the church and one or two left around the churchyard. From there we went to the Wells Cemetery which took over in approx 1850 and again the manager there was extremely helpful going back through the records , I understand there is normally a charge , however I had a number of details which made it a bit easier. Anyway while in at the Church of St Cuthbert's I took some notes of all the Bartlett's interred there and they are as follows, not in any order and they are only what was readable from headstones at the time ( 1850) . John Bartlett d.8/11/1753 aged 67 and Frances wife d.16/1/1775 aged 81 Emanuel Bartlett d.9/6/1845 aged 77 John Bartlett d.11/3/1802 aged 72 & Mary d.5/12/1792 aged 61 Robert Bartlett d.26/2/1766 aged 47 & Elizabeth Margaret daughter of Joseph aged 3 months Mary Bartlett d.22/8/1816 aged 67 Elizabeth d.22/3/1846 aged 19 years daughter of George & Ann Bartlett ( memorial stone under tree in Churchyard ) John son of Cornelius and Anna Bartlett d.31/3/1820 aged 29 Ruth wife of Joseph d.17/1/1839 d. aged 52 James Bartlett d.12/6/1876 aged 19 Ann Bartlett nee Coles widow of James Cole & Margaret Bartlett d.24.12.18.. & Ann Coles d.1/8/1794 aged 19 & Elizabeth Coles d.30/9/1801 aged 35 from memorial in Church interior but no longer there only a record. I then visited the Cemetery of Wells were all the remaining Bartlett's were interred and there were many, very prolific family! However my find of Joseph and Ann Bartlett my G G G Grandfather & mother buried there in an unmarked plot along with Josephs sister was a real find. The records show Joseph Bartlett aged 77 D.21/4/1871, Ann Bartlett Aged 79 d.1/9/1869 and Elizabeth Hoare aged 79 d.21/12/1865.Perhaps Elizabeth was Josephs sister as I know he had a sister known as Eliza ! There were many more Bartletts buried there far to many to record all from 1850 onwards. The Bartletts were scattered in and around Wells living in family groups. Anyway I hope some of this is useful to you. Regards Rex Bartlett Havelock North, New Zealand. Notify Administrator about this message?
