Hi, Jim.
My son recently took me to Branscombe looking for our LEIGH ancestors, and since we've come home to Australia I've found that on the female side we're related to BARTLETTs of Hole House, Branscombe (1600 & 1700s). I'm trying to get hold of the 1913 DFHS edition of the Branscombe register, which includes memorial inscriptions for various BARTLETTs, some of them in Latin which I'm trying to get translated. The BARTLETTs seem to have been a class above the LEIGHs, who were yeomen but apparently respectable enough for the gentry to marry their daughters to! Will keep an eye open for your William.
Branscombe is a beautiful place - we saw it in sunny weather.
Good hunting,
