Charity Stidd BARTLETT MORSE was born in Breckenridge, KY, around 1820-1823. She married Jesse Bartlett who had three boys and two girls by his first marriage. ( I have Jesse Bartlett married first to Joanna ROSACRONCE and there children were -- William b abt 1837; Hiram abt 1838; Ebenezer b abt 1844; Lydia b abt 1846 and Nancy b abt 1848) Charity and Jesse had twin girls - Rachel Matilda and Ruth Jane, Daniel, John and
Susan. Jesse died and is buried at Bushnell, IL
On Aug. 1, 1880 Charity left Illinois with her son John BARTLETT, grandson Jesse MORSE, daughter Ruth Jane BARTLETT
DEWITT, son-in-law William R. DEWITT and their children, Nancy, Isabell, Effie, Jessie and Hulda and traveled to
Woodburn, Iowa. From there they went to Nebraska by train and arrived at Long Pine 1884. Charity took up a claim 15 miles
north of Springview, southeast quarter, Section 2, Township 34, Range 22 on July 27, 1887 near Marlbank Post Office what is
now known as the Ben E. Weston Ranch.
Her son John was in the quarter section north of her and her son Daniel was in the quarter section east and south of her. She
was there in her sod house during the terrible blizzard of Jan. 12, 1888. She moved to Springview in the summer of 1888
leaving her sons John and Daniel BARTLETT to operate her farm. She later moved to Norden and was cared for by her
granddaughter Nancy BLACKBURN until she died. She is buried in the Rector Cemetery (Pleasant Dale Cemetery), in an
unmarked grave.
