Dear Owen
I have a Julia S. Bartlett in my extended family tree, and I wonder if she is the same one.We have not encountered her as associated with Christian Science. However, there are always new things to learn about our ancestors.
My Julia is Julia Sofia Bartlett b 1849 in Binghamton, New York, to Joseph Bartlett and Deborah Cafferty. She was the only sister among 10 brothers, and being almost the youngest, she was quite a favorite. As a teenager, she accompanied her brother Gen. Joseph Jackson Bartlett to Europe around 1870.He was sent as U.S. Minister to Sweden and Norway. This Julia later married a Thomas W. Wilmarth and moved to Chicago, where her husband was a dealer in gas fixtures.I could think of no reason why she might not have encountered Mary Baker Eddy sometime in the 1870's or perhaps even later. However, Bartlett is a fairly common name in New England.Let me know what you think. If she is the same Julia, I can give her ancestry for several generations.
Paul Bartlett
