The surname Bartholomew is of German orign according to reasrch my grandmother has done, who is a Bartholomew. The spelling of Bartholomew in my line in 1700's is Bartholomei, the Latin spelling is Bartholomaeus, sometimes written as Bartholomae. The spelling Bartholomew seems to be started by my ancestor, Jhoann Wendel Bartholomei's sons.
Bartholomew is also a biblical name, so exactly where it came from I can't say but definitly of German origin from reseach done.
