I can't help you directly in your search for Rose M although my g.g.grandfather, Samuel Barter of New Brunswick Canada, put together a history of the NB Barters which you can find at http://web.ncf.ca/fq443/crca/barters.htm or http://www3.sympatico.ca/reyn99/barters.htm where you'll see that Mary was a very common Barter name and there is a Massachusetts connection. Could it be that your mother's middle name was Mary?

I also remember coming across a story he wrote about a chance reunion in NYC between a mother and daughter, long separated, which I assumed was fictional (unusual for him) but was set in the early 1900s.

Best of luck with your search.
