Thanks for the note Stephen,

I think it's unlikely we are talking about the same Thomas Bartell. My grandfather, Herman, Thomas' 6th child was born around 1902 (he doesn't show up on the 1900 census). Your father was born almost 20 years later, making this Thomas and his wife (Kungunta) nearly 50 at the time of his your dad's birth (nearly impossible back then). While it's possible Thomas remarried, my Dad doesn't remember any mention of that in our family history. It is curious that your name may have been changed, even though in your case it's to Bartell and in my case it's from Bartell.
