There is a Michael Bartell in my family. He was born in 1856 and died sometime before 1896. The family has very little information about him. He was the oldest child of Peter and Christiana Dorothea Reichle Bartell. Peter died in the Civil War. His children were Anna, Johann Michael, Peter Karl, and Katharina Friedericke. Peter lived to Forest township in Fond du Lac co., WI. We know that Michael left home early and not much is known about him. I have extensive information on his sister Anna and Peter Karl (my great grandfather). I have relatives in Fond du Lac county that are descendents of Katharina. I have just begun searching out the family and haven't had a chance to dig into her offspring, but I do know a grandson (now in his 70's) who can provide me with extensive information.
I have no information on Michael. I believe there was a family spat that resulted in his leaving home early. I do know that he died of TB. After his death his clothes were given to his brother Peter Karl. Knowledge of TB being what it was, he wore those clothes and contracted TB himself. He died 1/28/1896 of TB, leaving a wife and six children under 10 years of age.
Can you verify any additional information about Michael? I have another reference book that mentions Anna Bartell as the daughter of Martin Kaeding, who was vice president of the Eden State Bank in 1912.
