I am searching for anyone who may have knowledge of a Bartel Family who came to America from Austria-Hungary circa 1909-1913. I found on the Ellis Island wedsite a family of Franz Bartel, age 41, Peter Bartel,age 16, Conrad Bartel, age 31 and Marie Bartel, age 14. This family fits the description of Marie's family although I remember her saying she was about 9 years old when she came. She settled in the Detroit Michigan area prior to her marriage in 1924. I think she said her father may have been, at least at one time, in the Chicago area. The Ellis island site states the above family's ethnicity as Hungary-Magyar. Marie always said she came from Austria. Her family was of the Catholic faith. Some of the family,the mother and maybe younger sisters, stayed in Austria at least at the time of the above's emigration to America.
