Robert Matthew Bartel

BARTEL, ROBERT MATTHEW Robert "Bob" Bartel died on August 12, 2005. He will be remembered as a dedicated doctor and humanitarian, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and leader in the medical community. Born on July 6, 1919 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He attended Creighton University and the University of Iowa's Medical School. Doctor Bob served his patients well. He was one of those rare physicians who made house calls and phoned homes. He spent countless hours checking on patients in the hospital beyond the normal workday. In addition, he volunteered in various programs such as the Cub Scouts, children's athletic programs, and an orphanage in Tijuana. He served as the Chief of Section at many San Diego hospitals and helped develop and implement the Peer Review Program for the State of California. He was recognized for his medical expertise and for service to his patients and the people of California with many awards. He was an avid reader, traveler, and ballroom dancer. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a deep sense of dignity and had high expectations for himself and his profession. He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann, his children Nick, Bruce, Steve, Pat Kenaston, Sue Sharp, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
