I read with interest your posting of Bartels and ties to E. St. Louis Ill. My grandmother was born Theda Bartel in that same location. Her father was Fred Bartel and Goldie Bartel. Other sibs include Edward and Shirley. This family just disappeared with Goldie passing away around 1920 (place unk but date appears in Theda's son's baby book), and Theda being raised by an Aunt Dell in Michigan. There was a John Bartell on the 1920 census living with a Chet and Dell Farrell around Detroit, and John was Chet's F.I.L. I have no clue what happened to Fred, he just disappeared and I can find no record of his death, census, etc ANYWHERE. The Mexico jaunt intrigues me. Theda born 1917, and Edward born prior to, and Shirley born after Theda. John (source: 1920 MI census) was born in Missouri c. 1863-65, with his father (name unk) born in PA, and mother )also unk) in Kentucky. Anything here remotely familiar??

Thanks, Rhonda in Michigan
