Have you been to the census records yet? The 1900 census has John and Laura living next door to T. & Mary Bartee [T. b. 2/1843, Mary b. 4/1844, sons: Willie b. 5/1874, Walter b. 8/1877 and Thoofolis b. 7/1882; also listed is James A. Bartee, nephew, b. 9/1851]. Good chance they are John's parents. T. may be Theophilus Bartee who is listed in PA Co. in 1860 age 17.
